Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology

The institute seeks to create and enrich more prosperous sustainable society for citizen of West Bengal, the nation and the world by providing innovative solutions through research, consultancy and continuing education for satisfying current and future institutional and R & D needs. Govt. College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Serampore, is one of the pioneer institutions in India in the field of Engineering and Technology. The college was formerly known as College of Textile Technology, Serampore and it was established in 1908. The Institute started with a certificate course in Weaving. After that in the year 1926 Women’s section started in separate premises. Institute started B.Sc(Tech) degree course in Textile Technology in the year 1957. Meanwhile, B.Sc degree turned into B.Tech in the year 1998 and started M.Tech in Mechanical Processing of Textiles. In the year 2000, It opened new stream Information Technology, Next year i.e. 2001 Computer Science & Engineering stream was opened successfully. After that, It added a brand new stream Apparel Production Management in 2007. Institute now has M.Tech courses on Mechanical Processing of Textiles(1994) & Chemical Processing of Textiles(2008).
