About Us

Fiona’s Studio of Dance is a reputable dance studio that offers unique training to all ages from 2yrs to adults for recreational dancers to full-time dance training. FSD believes in excellence and aims to help develop young people’s life skills with a healthy self-esteem and attitude. Conveniently located in Morisset, 30 mins north of Gosford and 40 mins south of Newcastle.

R.A.D Ballet

Ballet is the foundation for dancing. It’s one of the most popular forms of dance and many begin to learn inspired by the beautiful classical line, the poise and balance & coordination of a dancer. The body is developed very gradually through a series of well- constructed exercises and designed to give flexibility and strength to the muscles, enabling the dancer to jump, turn, beat, all with perfect grace, balance and control. Pointe work (toe dancing) is also offered for the more experienced dancer and separate classes in Open Ballet and Stretch / Conditioning prepare the dancers body for the Vocational Stream in Ballet. R.A.D. Examinations & Class Awards are offered annually to preschoolers, through to Grades and Vocational Ballet students.

Tap (P.D.A.U.T)

Rhythmical foot and leg work taught with a solid technical foundation in the reputable PDAUT style Tap Syllabus. Students progress at their own pace from basic levels through to Advanced levels, learning correct placement, timing and rhythm with a secure technical understanding. The syllabus challenges the students to work to percussion sounds through to modern day music. Examinations are offered from Primary Tap to to Teacher’s Exams.

Jazz

Energetic dancing to upbeat music! Dance all styles from traditional to funk, street dance, cabaret, incorporating techniques for turns, jumps and kicks with an emphasis on correct technique. Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality. Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a freer form of upbeat dancing that is sweeping the world by storm! It is fun and funky and suitable for beginners through the experienced dancer, boy and girls.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is a form of theatre that draws together the performing arts strands of singing, mime, acting, dance and movement. Students will develop skills in different character roles, incorporating storytelling, characterisation and expression, and will learn parts from children’s musicals and films – dancing acting and singing! There may be opportunities for students in the Musical Theatre classes to refine their skills through participation at competitions throughout the year.

Modern Contemporary

Modern Dance, or often known as ‘Contemporary’ or ‘Lyrical’ Dance, is an exciting and popular form of dance that uses the body expressively to melodic, abstract or reflective music, to poetry or percussion. This freer style demands greater mobility of the torso and use of space. Students learn well-known Contemporary techniques from those of ‘Martha Graham’, ‘Cunningham’, and ‘Lester Horton’ with an emphasis on a strong, but supple body
