Nestled between the lush green tea gardens where the snowcapped mountains of Arunachal peep through the Nahors, The Assam Valley School prides itself in being a ‘School for adventure’ where education cherishes, enhances and inspires a student to be the best that they can be. The aspiration that lay at the core of its inception was to bring to the North East of India an institution which will be an amalgamation of the dynamics of a public school with a pan-Indian reach. The seed of this vision lay ensconced in the history of tea and the legend of the Williamson Magor Group, the world’s largest private tea company. It will be the drive and dynamism of Mrs. Julia Magor which will see to the inch by inch growth of this mammoth institution into the School, it is today.

The Silver Jubilee of the School reflected on global timeline its clarion call that ‘Truth is strength’ and human perseverance at the face of adversity, marks the evolution of society. The School continues to ingrain in every Aviator the art of collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and communication to ensure they become who they are destined to be tomorrow.

The statistics that reflect the School to the world outside, remain at the periphery of its vast 240 acres. It comes to many visitors as a pleasant surprise that the length and breadth of this green campus is Wi-Fi connected. AVS has been ranked number one in infrastructure but this quiet achievement has long become part of the life of the School community who aspire in their daily workings to keep the School ‘green’ as much in character, as in colour. AVS has been ranked number one in Assam and the fourth best Co-Educational Residential School in the country and has been the recipient of awards on multiple parameters. What the School prides itself more however, are in the achievements of its students and alumni who have gone on to win accolades on national and international forums. The glory of a School is etched from the mettle of the students who pass through its gates and therein lies the true triumph of this grand institution. Of all the things that can be put down in ink, perhaps the most difficult is to aptly describe the changing sky over this beautiful campus. Generations of Aviators have aspired to capture in art, as much in photographs, the morning sky that seems to burst at the crack of dawn with a blue that sets the vibrant tone of the day. The relentless afternoon sun brings with it a lull that is swiftly broken by the enthusiasm of sports. The pulsating greens have borne witness to the rigors and victories of many a sportsperson having taught them infallible lessons in sportsmanship. With twilight comes the whimsies of the sky, at times in shades of ochre on others an orange that sets fire to the sky. The shimmer of the night dazzles even the most trained eye and is perhaps the most prized memory that accompanies an Aviator through the journey of their school life keeping them company beyond the gates of the School. In-between the pages of books borrowed from the exhaustive library, to the shout of laughter from the favourite haunt of ‘By the way’, the School’s cafeteria, to the bonds woven on the corridors that survive the wear and tear of friendships, lies the spirt of AVS. In the unbridled hunger to live life with a sense of adventure and the gratitude of sharing, thrives the true nature of each girl and each boy who wear with pride, the legend of being an Aviator.
