The policy of the Govt. of Karnataka is to take higher education to the common man and bring about regional balance. With this great vision to make higher education affordable to the poorest of the poor of all sections of the society the Government of Karnataka started Government First Grade College in Koppal city during the academic year 2002-03, vide order number GO No. ED110 URC 2002 Dt: 28-06-2002 The college is affiliated to Vijayanagara sri krishnadevaraya University, Bellary. It comes under the jurisdiction of Gulbarga Regional Joint Director Office.
This college is offering quality education for students of Arts, Commerce, Management and Science courses. At present this College, is functioning in own building and also under construction in first floor cost about 1.55 Crores which includes class rooms, laboratory and ladies waiting hall cum toilets. The college is marching towards excellence under the guidance of the Principal and Chairman of College Development Committee with a team of qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff. The college has grown in strength from a meagre 144 students in the year 2002-03 to 1207 for the academic year 2013-14. It has 09 regular teaching staff, 36 guest faculties & 08 Non-Teaching staff.
