Carmel School began in 1958 with eight Grade One Jewish children in a makeshift classroom in Bulawayo. It moved to its present site in 1960 with five teachers and 160 pupils in classes up to Grade Four. The school sought to provide a mixture of Jewish and secular education from Grade One to Grade Seven.
